Support black owned businesses
During COVID, no one was working unless it was online. But we saw a lot of people who were creating and starting their own businesses. I began doing hair, my sister started her custom charm bracelet business, my best friend created her own baby/toddler clothing line. Then, we also saw the Black community hurting too. So many police shootings and brutalities, and it began to be too much. I wanted to use my voice to spread light in such a dark time, but I didn’t know how. So I started to brainstorm. I was turning 22 that September, and wanted to do something for the community. I hosted my first Black-owned pop-up shop. Originally I wanted 22 vendors, because that was how old I was turning. My community exceeded those expectations, and I ended up with 27 businesses. It was such a positive event for us, and I was overwhelmed with emotions. After that I hosted a few more and even added a community fun-day to the agenda!
